The amount of supplementary feeding needed in the run up to lambing depends on ewe requirements, base diet, forage quality and closeness to lambing.
As unborn lambs grow faster at the end of pregnancy, the nutrient requirements of the ewe increases, at the same time her intake falls. Increasing the rate of concentrate feeding gradually through lambing is the best way insure against twin lamb disease and to give lambs the best possible start.
Why Super Ewe Nuts Plus?
Super Ewe Nuts Plus are a high specification 18% protein ewe feed, designed for pregnant and twin bearing ewes. They provide balanced energy, quality protein, minerals and vitamins to support ewe health and lamb development.
What makes this feed “Plus”?
- A wide range of quality ingredients.
- Full mineralisation, meaning not extra supplements are required.
- Added Megalac and Vitamin E to support energy balance and immune function.
How should Super Ewe Nuts Plus be fed?
- Feeding quantity depends on:
- Ewe condition and pregnancy stage.
- Forage quality(silage/hay/straw).
- Closeness to lambing.
As lamb growth accelerates in late pregnancy while ewe intake drops, gradually increase concentrate feeding leading up to lambing. This helps prevent twin lamb disease and supports strong lamb development.
